Comprehensive
Eye Test
After about 40 years, adult vision gradually deteriorates because of age-related changes in the eye structure.
Some of these changes, like farsightedness, are normal and easily corrected by wearing glasses or contact lenses. Others, such as cataracts and, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration are more serious.
Left undetected, they can cause blindness.
At the Eye Shop, we have the sophisticated equipment and highly-trained eye specialists to manage these from an early stage.
Pediatric eye tests
We test eyes from 3 months old. We also do cyclopegic eye exams on kids. This is when you insert an eyedrop in the eye to paralyze or relax the muscle that aid in the focusing the eye. You do this to determine the persons complete refractive error.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to your eye’s optic nerve. It’s often associated with a buildup of fluid pressure inside the eye. Glaucoma tends to be inherited and may not show up until later in life.
The increased pressure, called intraocular pressure, can damage the optic nerve, which transmits images to the brain. If damage to the optic nerve from high eye pressure continues, glaucoma will cause permanent loss of vision. Without treatment, glaucoma can cause total permanent blindness within a few years.
Because most people with glaucoma have no early symptoms or pain from this increased pressure, it is important to see your optometrist regularly so that glaucoma can be diagnosed and treated before long-term visual loss occurs.
Discovery Vitality points available to members who receive a glaucoma test.

Visual Therapy
Vision Therapy Is Effective Treatment
Vision therapy — a type of physical therapy for the eyes and brain — is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, convergence insufficiency and some reading and learning disabilities.
Who is vision therapy for?
Vision therapy is safe, drug-free, and effective for both children and adults! While visual acuity (the “20/20” part of vision) requires glasses to improve, visual skills such as tracking together along a line of text must be learned during development, these skills can also be improved later in life at any age.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 children have a vision problem severe enough to affect their learning in school, but school vision screenings can miss up to half of these problems. A comprehensive vision exam with a developmental optometrist checks all aspects of eye health, vision, and visual skills, and can ensure you or your child is not struggling unnecessarily with an undiagnosed vision problem.
What is the goal of VT?
- Help patients develop or improve fundamental visual skills and abilities
- Improve visual comfort, ease, and efficiency
- Change how a patient processes or interprets visual information
We also have an eye tracker. It uses infra red light to track how a patients read. Eye tracking is a sensor technology that enables a device to know exactly where your eyes are focused. A wide range of test stimuli can be presented on the screen and following a quick calibration, the system records the position of each eye at approximately 60 measurements per second.
The software replays exactly where the patient was looking and shows the horizontal and vertical position of the eyes and convergence/ phoria. Powerful built in analysis algorithms automatically provide a range of statistics relating to reading performance.
Dry eye treatment
Dry eye syndrome is now on the way to becoming a widespread disease. At least 17 % of the total population are affected. And the numbers are growing. Those affected complain of many symptoms and disorders: itchy eyes, burning eyes, tired eyes – to name only the most common complaints.
Risk factors of dry eye:
- Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
- Acne rosacea
- Diabetes mellitus
- Vitamin A deficiency
- Drug-based glaucoma therapy
- Corneal operations
- Environmental factors such as
- Smoke, ozone, dry air, air conditioning, computer work, etc.
- Allergies
Carel and Hanlie has extensive experience in managing dry eye especially in conjunction with systemic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid problems, Sjogren’s syndrome and lupus as well as eye conditions like glaucoma that often are associated with dry eye.
Eyeshop is devoted to the advanced diagnosis and treatment of of dry eye and ocular surface disease. We utilize the latest state of the art technology including Oculus Keratograph 5M infrared meibography and non-invasive tear film breakup analysis and a variety of additional in-depth diagnostic tests to get to the cause of problem and effectively treat it.
